Week 1
Classroom: Getting started, charts, interviews, definitions, how to enter data
Computer: General introduction to computers and the internet. How to search.

Week 2
Classroom: Using data; how to photocopy, citing sources, census and other paperwork
Computer: Using PAF and other genealogy software, Cyndi’s List, internet cautions If you do not have a genealogy software program, a free one can be downloaded at http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-genealogy-family-tree-software.htm The example used in class will be PAF5

Week 3
Classroom: Immigration, Military service, indenture, slavery
Computer: LDS website, Government of Canada website, other helpful sites

Week 4
Classroom: Women, brick walls, naming conventions
Computer: Message boards, mailing lists, email etiquette

Week 5
Classroom: Family Bibles, saving documents and photos
Computer: Newspapers, obituaries, wildcard searching

Week 6
Classroom: Photo clues (bring old photographs)
Computer: Image scanning, OCR

Week 7
Classroom: Collateral Lines, DNA
Computer: GenWeb, Magazines

Week 8
Classroom: City directories, heritage books, and church records
Computer: Using FTM and LDS cd’s, what should you spend money on?

Week 9
Classroom: Land, Probate, and Tax records
Computer: Soundex, online learning tools

Week 10
Classroom: Check 5 generation charts, societies, brainstorming
Computer: Your own website, what to share, how to share

NOTE: When the course runs 11 weeks there will be the opportunity to visit the local LDS library if enough learners are interested. When the course runs 8 weeks, Week 9 will be combined with Week 5 and Week 8 will be combined with Week 4.
